How to Make Eating Fruits and Veggies Fun

Among the different healthy foods that you want your kids to eat, fruits and vegetables are probably at the top of the list. If you have some stubborn kids who want nothing to do with them, making eating fun can really encourage them to try different ones and figure out what veggies are their favorite.

Cut the Food Into Fun Shapes

This is a really great way to make eating fruits and veggies fun for kids, especially younger kids. There are a lot of fruits and vegetables that can be cut thinly and cut into shapes, whether you do it on your own or you use cookie cutters. You can cut an apple into thin slices and use a metal cookie butter to make stars, hearts, or butterflies for the kids. You can also put together different scenery with their veggies, like cutting carrots and zucchini with animal cookie cutters to create a little zoo of veggies. You don’t want to do this every time so that they expect it, but as a fun treat.

Give Them Fruit or Veggie Kabobs

When preparing lunches for your kids, think of ways to give them fruits and veggies, but in a more enjoyable way than just slicing it up and putting them in a bento box. Kabobs can be fun to put together and eat, so they are definitely a good choice for the kids. Get some kabob skewers made of plastic, as some of the wood ones have splinters when pulling fruit off of them. You also don’t want them to be too sharp at the ends of the skewers. Put chunks of fruit like watermelon, pineapple, and mango, or go with a veggie one like a salad, such as cherry tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumber.

Serve Them With Something Yummy

Sometimes, the kids that really don’t like vegetables just need them alongside something they really enjoy eating. So if your son loves grilled cheese sandwiches, put tomato and lettuce inside the grilled cheese. That way, he gets to eat his favorite lunch or dinner, but also is eating some veggies at the same time. You can do this with a lot of different meals, from sandwiches and burgers, to pasta and chili. If you can get your kids to help prepare the meals as well, it will encourage them even more to eat healthy and actually enjoy their fruits and veggies.
